The new Slim line PS2's SCPH-7x00x are now fine to mod only the V12 was ever an issue being prone to self destruction, but even for this model a fix is available and can be viewed here.

DVD Multi-Zone PAL This is a public domain utility like Datel's Region X Multi-Zone system. Simply download this file: DVD Multi-Zone PAL (123K), read the readme.txt and write the image to a CDR. I have not tried this tool myself and I have been advised that it works only on V4 Mainboards and not the V3, V5/V6 or V7 Mainboards.
